The ladies of the Valley View United Methodist Church Faith Circle are Deanna Klein, Sammie Snell, Louise Evans, Pat Chambliss, Ginny Snider, Lavon Hayman. In this interview six women, ages 70 to 80, share their childhood memories of the telephone, radio, movies and music. Two of the women grew up in Johnson County and the others in the midwest.
Margaret Pixley James was born March 7, 1927 in La Jolla, CA. She has been active in community service all her life and worked to promote racial harmony. Mrs. James was a school teacher and school board member in Liberty, Missouri. She has also taught Red Cross classes and at 88 is raising a great grandson.
Cecil H. Simons was born in a log cabin in Lindy, Missouri on January 24, 1921. Lindy, Missouri was a small town (that no longer exists) in New Madrid county in the bootheel of the state. At a young age his family moved to Amboy, Lee County, Illinois. Cecil served in World War II as a radio operator and mechanic with the 89th Fighter Squadron, the 25th Fighter Squadron, and the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron. Cecil flew in 187 combat missions, mostly in China, and was discharged as a staff sergeant in June, 1945. Cecil has a son, grandson and granddaughter.
